Some news: as of yesterday, January 31, 2021, I have retired from the private practice of law, and from my long-time spot as a Director (partner) in Damon Key Leong Kupchak Hastert.
I'm not leaving the practice of law (this blog will continue in the same format) it's just that I will not be in private practice - more on that here - and will not continue on under the same roof as I have since 1987 (and even earlier; I was a summer associate at Damon Key during law school).
Before I let you know about the new gig, let me say that I love the lawyers with whom I have practiced literally since I was first called to the Bar over three decades ago. Were I remaining in private practice, there's nowhere else but Damon Key I would do it. Over the years, I have come to consider many of these lawyers more friends than colleagues and business partners (Mark, Anna, Diane, Ken, Michael, I am especially looking at you), and I have known some of you longer than I knew my own mother and father. And I am not embarrassed to say that I do love you, dearly.
It took a lot of thinking and soul-searching to decide that now is a good time to try something new, and it was not an easy or cavalier decision. Damon Key is in great shape, it's a fantastic place to practice law, our lawyers remain the best-of-breed in many areas such as land use, eminent domain defense, construction, insurance coverage, trusts and estates, and appellate, for example, and we have an exciting group of young Associates ready to uphold our traditions of top-shelf lawyering and client service. I feel confident the firm is in very good hands. All of these, combined with an opportunity that was simply too appealing to pass up, guided my thinking.
So before this new adventure begins, let's just kiss and say goodbye...
